This is a master study of Artemisia Gentileschi's Judith beheading Holofernes, created in 1620. Gentileschi was an Italian Boroque painter, considered now to be one of the most accomplished 17th century artists and easily one of my favorite artists of all time.
She's known to be the first woman to become a member of the Academia di Arte del Disegno and make a living from painting. This is merely my attempt at replicating her beautifully striking baroque masterpiece. The title of the piece is the name of the artist as a homage to her.
Gentileschi is an oil painting on a 36 by 34 framed wooden panel, she's a heavy piece.
